Today, with six PAX in tow, YHC dialed the wayback machine to 2000 after multiple requests from Uptown Girl. Though I wouldn’t call 2000 one of the “greatest” years in music history, but there were some memorable songs…but it was hard to cull them when the Hot 100 was loaded with Britney and Christina and every boy band one could imagine. We’ll get back to the greatest ones during my next workout when we visit 1991. I think UTG just wanted to see how the math and reps would work out, which I’ll get to shortly. Also, it was fun to have a playlist of songs that actually came out after Geico was born…and he even remembered a few of them. The weather was perfect, the gnats were nowhere to be found, and Blackberry’s burps were, as always, glorious. Good stuff. Anyhow, today we chiseled our abs one step closer to beach body Adonis-ness.
Disclaimer
We started with a warm-up lap around the full length of the OPES drop-off lane. This will make sense shortly. When we returned, we did the following routine, all performed OYO:
- Plank Jacks, 100x
- LBCs, 100x
- Michael Phelpses, 100x
- Proud Pickle, 100x
- American Hammers (2-ct), 100x
To give the core a breather, we then took another lap around through the drop-off lane.
Next up were the following, all performed OYO:
- Merkins, 100x
- DollyLitas (mix n’ match as needed) (2-ct), 100x
- Floyd Mayweather, 100x
- Flutter Kicks (2-ct), 100x
- Mountain Climbers, 100x
So, 10 core exercises x 100 of each = 1,000.
Each lap was roughly 500 yards.
So, 1,000 reps + 1,000 yards = Y2K. We are disregarding units of measure.
Uptown Girl closed us out with a few stretches.

Playlist:
“Smooth” by Carlos Santana and Rob Thomas
“Bent” by Matchbox 20
“Country Grammar” and “Ride Wit Me” by Nelly. When all the gangster rappers were in their 15th minute of fame, Nelly saw the writing on the wall and came out with these two crowd-pleasers.
“Californication” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. You can’t have a playlist during this era without something from RHCP.
“Cover of the Rolling Stone” Although the original by Dr. Hook is a true classic, Poison did a decent version of this in 2000.
“Last Resort” by Papa Roach. The PAX learned from YHC that the main riff in this song was supposedly lifted (either with or without consent) from the main riff of “Hallowed Be They Name” by Iron Maiden. You can listen to each and be the judge.
“Rollin’ (Air Raid Vehicle)” by Limp Bizkit. The PAX learned that, when The Undertaker made a brief departure from his Deadman days and adopted more of a biker persona, this was his walkout song for a brief time.
“Learn to Fly” by Foo Fighters. Because Dave Grohl is the man.
“Down With the Sickness” by Disturbed. Nobody knew this one (too heavy maybe), but I also informed them that a much softer and more jovial cover of this song appears in the back half of the remake of Romero’s “Dawn of the Dead.”
Peace,
Bundy
