The Soggy Bottom Boys

It was a cool and refreshing morning for the 9 PAX who fought off the fartsack and turned out for what would be a nice, soggy workout in the dark rain.

DISCLAIMER

With all the turmoil going on our country as of late, the mainstream media has made a phenomenal effort to try and skew the definition of a hero. We do the Murph from time to time…and we should because it’s a great workout in honor of a great man. But there are so many others out there who have given what Lincoln once called “the last full measure of devotion” while in the line of duty and we should make an effort to honor them in the gloom, as well. This morning, I chose a Hero WOD called “Loredo” that honors Army Staff Sergeant Edwardo Loredo. SSgt Loredo, 34, of Houston, was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg and was killed in 2010 in Jelewar, Afghanistan when insurgents attacked his unit with an IED. He left behind a wife (First Sergeant Jennifer Loredo), two daughters, and a son.

Also, when Hee Haw asked about the significance of the sets and reps, I didn’t have an answer. I had not seen it in any of SSgt Loredo’s bios. However, I DID come across this information a few minutes ago: “the 6 rounds represent the month (June) and 24 repetitions represent the day Eddie died.”

So, the workout consists of the following:

Six rounds of:

24 Squats

24 Push-ups

24 Walking lunge steps

Run 400 meters (which is roughly a lap around the OPES parking lot)

Afterward, we circled up for a round of Dealer’s Choice core. Each member of the PAX Q’d the core exercise of his choice. All of them were tough by this point, but Rosebud’s 2-minute plank was particularly brutal and Mrs. Howell’s LBC-BBSU combo was a scorcher to finish up. After that, we cycled through a few yoga postures to help keep us young and nimble.
