The Thang:

Today’s workout is about changing our world; in Matthew 28:16-20, Jesus gives us the Great Commission:

“Jesus came and told his disciples, ‘I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’”  (NLT)

Changing our world involves 4 fields of ministry: yourself, others, your community and the world.  We find an excellent framework for understanding what God requires of us and how we can bring about change in Micah 6:8:

“What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (ESV)

But where do we begin?  Elie Wiesel tells a story of a Jewish man who set out to change the world.  In making his plans, he said to himself:

“Basing myself on the Talmudic saying that if all… repented, the Messiah would come, I
decided to do something about it. I was convinced I would be successful. But where was
I to start? The world is so vast. I shall start with the country I know best, my own. But my
country is so very large. I had better start with my town. But my town, too, is large. I had
best start with my street. No: my home. No: my family. Never mind, I shall start with

We can think of these 4 fields of ministry as a concentric circle:

The World: Mosey around the school (long way)

  1. Stop for some Jeff Imperial Walkers
  2. Stop for some Stephanie Imperial Walkers
  3. Stop for some Michael Imperial Walkers

This workout represents the world.  We are blessed to have spent time with Jeff Imperial before his call into the mission field.  While God calls each one of us to serve Him in different ways, let us never forget Jesus’ call in the Great Commission, “go and make disciples of all the nations.

Your Community: Ring of Fire; 10 stations; 60 seconds per station:

  1. Burpees
  2. Wonderbras
  3. Dips
  4. Jump-Ups
  5. Merkins
  6. Lunges
  7. Squats
  8. Plank Jacks
  9. Big Boy Sit-ups
  10. Mountain Climbers

This workout represents your community.  There are many roles we play in our community, including at work, church, organizations, and other institutions.  We can influence our community and society by acting justly.

Others: Something about Mary; PAX choice

This workout represents others, including your family.  We focused on core exercises to remind us that our relationships with others are enriched when our core is strong.  Before we can make an impact in our community and in the world, we must make sure our M, our 2.0’s, and those closest to us are loved with kindness.

Yourself: Modified Dora 1-2-3; partner up; one partner runs 100 yards while the other partner exercises. Cumulative exercise goal for each pair is:

  1. Merkins x25
  2. Little Baby Crunches x50
  3. Squats x100

This workout represents yourself.  We partner up because in marriage, we are united to our M as one in the eyes of God.  Let us never forget how important our M’s are in our lives and that we are called to walk humbly with God.
